Signs of a New Season

One of the reasons God tells us to take our eyes off the old and behold the new is that we get to play a part in stepping into our new season. Based on our design, we become what we behold. What we behold we multiply.

Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert. Isaiah 43:18-19

Growing up in Nigeria, I was well aware of the seasons but I had a better understanding of the concept of seasons after I moved to Canada. Back in Nigeria, our seasons did not require different sets of clothes and shoes, the change in seasons did not affect our daily lives as it does here in Canada. When I first arrived in Ontario, Fall was my favorite season. I loved the colors of the season.
The trees, leaves, and grasses had different shades of gold, brown, and wine color. The temperature was perfect, it was not too cold and not burning hot. Fall is beautiful.

After I relocated to western Canada, with the not-so-friendly winter temperatures, I realized Spring became my favorite season. Once we get to the 1st of March, the joy in my heart explodes, all I think about is the fact that winter is over! It doesn’t matter to me if it snows or rains, if it’s cold or warm, nothing quenches my joy because of the awareness that a new season is about to begin.

Spring in my opinion is one of the dirtiest months of the year here in the west. As the temperatures begin to warm up, the snow begins to melt, the roads are muddy with pools of dirty water in almost every corner. Cars are so dirty, you can barely tell the exact color of a car in spring. Every car seems to be nicely decorated with muddy water. Despite all that, spring comes with the excitement of the new. Gradually daylight becomes longer, buds on the trees begin to break and leaves begin to appear, flowers begin to spring, the seeds sown in the soil begin to grow again.

While spring is in no way as beautiful as fall, while spring can be an irritating time for some because of the dirtiness and other factors, having the perspective of a new season can make it exciting. In our text today God tells us to forget the old, for behold, He is doing a new thing. I know it doesn’t look like it yet, but can you see the tiny leaves springing from the trees again? I know it all still looks dirty and muddy but can you see the day is becoming longer? For someone reading, it feels like winter in some aspect of your life, but I’ve come to announce that your new season is here. Take your eyes off the old, don’t look back at how difficult it’s been, don’t look back at how long and cold the winter was, (It literally was in Saskatchewan this year though lol) focus on what God is doing now.

One of the reasons God tells us to take our eyes off the old and behold the new is that we get to play a part in stepping into our new season. Based on our design, we become what we behold. What we behold we multiply. When God says behold the new, behold the promises I have given you, it’s time to see the fulfillment, the enemy has a way of bringing our yesterday into focus because he does not want us to get into our new season. He knows that if we keep our eyes on the old, we create the old, if we focus on the new, we step into the new. So, he works tirelessly in this season to distract us.

Don’t take the bait. Your time is here. It’s a new season. You’ve sown, prayed, confessed the word, you’ve waited, it’s time for the manifestation. Behold the new, step into the new. It’s your time, it’s your season.

Love Always

Obebi
